In Toulouse and in the former Midi-Pyrénées region, train drivers went on strike for the 4th timeon Friday December 20, 2024. But the day after this mobilization, the conflict does not seem to have calmed down with the SNCF. New railway strike dates have been announced in the region. But what about the holidays?
“We don’t want to spoil the holidays”
In a press release, the CGT of railway workers and drivers announced: “This is the Direction of the company that carries full responsibility for mobilization drivers from Midi Pyrénées! “.
But contrary to what might be expected, the trade union organizations have decided not to not go on strike during the holiday season end of year. They consider themselves “responsible”, unlike management and affirm: “ so as not to spoil the holidays and leave users free to travel on their TER, we decided not to call a strike during this period.”
Reason for mobilizations
After general assemblies held throughout the territory of the former Midi Pyrénées region, SNCF agents were unanimous: “Before the silence from managementwe have no choice but to continue waiting for her to agree reopen negotiations and respond to the points included in the notice,” explains the CGT in a press release.
As a reminder, as previously announced by Sébastien AÏSSOU, delegate of the CGT of railway workers and drivers at the Foix depot, at Toulouse News: “With these strikes, we let us denounce our new working conditions announced for 2025. The SNCF company decides to increase productivity on traffic, so that there are more trains during the day. But it also means longer days for us drivers, even though there are not enough of us.”
Dates of the next mobilizations
Thus, the next mobilizations announced are: Saturday January 4, Sunday January 5 and Monday January 6. The inter-union also calls on agents to decide on follow-ups at the next General Assemblies, which will be held on January 6, 2025.
Until then, the CGT and the inter-union announce “to stay open to discussion to find solutions with management by January 4, 2025.”
Mobilization figures
Friday December 20 last, during the fourth strike sequence, around 50% of drivers had stopped workingand the week before, theFriday December 13, it was 60% of them.
