What race number for Isack Hadjar in Formula 1?

In 2025, Isack Hadjar will be a Formula 1 driver with Racing Bulls. The Ile-de- native will join his compatriots Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon on the grid and will become the eleventh French driver to start a Grand Prix in the 21st century. An arrival in Formula 1 also comes with choices that will follow him throughout his career in the premier category, notably… the choice of permanent number. On this point, the protégé of the Red Bull fold did not have to think very long!

From next year, for his first year in , Isack Hadjar should wear – under the approval of the FIA, of course – the number 6. A choice implied in the last Instagram publication of the French driver, who published a photo of him as a child aboard a kart bearing the number 6, with the description: “Road to F1: accomplished! Chapter 2 starts now! #6”. Isack Hadjar has yet to explain the reason for this particular number, but he seems to have been associated with this number since his younger years in motorsport.

No. 6, a number of champions

The number 6 has a special place in Formula 1: after the number 1 and the number 5, it is the number which has seen the most drivers become world champions. On six occasions (you can't make this up), a driver has been titled with the No. 6 in the history of the discipline: Mike Hawthorn in 1958, Emerson Fittipaldi in 1972, Keke Rosberg in 1982, Nelson Piquet in 1987, Kimi Räikkönen in 2007 and Nico Rosberg in 2016.

Since the introduction of permanent numbers in 2014, two drivers have already chosen number 6: Nico Rosberg (2014-2016) and Nicholas Latifi (2020-2022). No. 6 is available again from 2025 since the Canadian left Formula 1 more than two years ago. Isack Hadjar will therefore become the third driver to wear this number, making it the most chosen racing number since 2014! Among the other rookies for the 2025 season, Gabriel Bortoleto chose No. 5, Jack Doohan No. 7, Andrea Kimi Antonelli No. 12 and Oliver Bearman No. 87.
