An awareness campaign on the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning has been organized since yesterday Friday, according to the press release from the Oran electricity and gas distribution department, received by our editorial staff.
“This campaign will take place at the mosque of the Abdelhamid Ibn Badis pole,” explains the press release, “with the active participation of civil society organizations, the Consumer Protection Association and the Algerian Red Cross.”
In addition, it is added, “the campaign includes several awareness-raising activities, including the Friday course, devoted to explanations and valuable information on the dangers of carbon monoxide and the preventive measures that must be taken.” Yesterday was also to include the distribution of brochures, explanations on the ground by specialists and the organization of interactive workshops with citizens inside the mosque, in order “to provide practical advice for strengthen public safety.
This initiative, says the Directorate, “aims to raise citizens' awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide, known as the “silent killer”, and to emphasize the importance of taking the necessary preventive measures to avoid poisoning by this gas, particularly during the winter season, when the unsafe use of heaters increases.
