RC seems ready to part ways withOscar Cortesa Colombian winger who arrived in the summer of 2023 but who failed to establish himself in the team. Recruited for around 4.5 million euros from Millonarios, the club belonging to the Lensois president Joseph Oughourlian. Cortés only played 4 matches in the Lensois jersey (1 goal, 1 assist). He was then loaned to Glasgow Rangers last February, where he still plays today.

A sale that would bring in a small amount

Despite a recent injury, Rangers are said to be in discussions with Lens to exercise the purchase option included in Cortés’ loan. According to journalist Julián Capera, “the technical staff of the Scottish club are convinced of the winger’s contribution to the project, given his good performances during his loan”. Millonarios would retain 20% of the player’s rights and would receive a share of the transaction as well as compensation for the training. Although the amount is not known, this sale would allow Lens to recover a small sum for a player who has not lived up to expectations.

A failed recruitment for Lens

Cortés’ arrival in Lens was part of the 2023 summer recruitment, but he is considered one of the flops of this transfer window. His loan to Rangers appears to be a way for the French club to offload a player who has failed to establish himself, while still recouping some of the initial investment. This potential sale illustrates the difficulties encountered by Lens in some of its recruitment choices, despite the ambitions displayed by President Oughourlian.

Future outlook

Although disappointing in Lens, Cortés seems to have convinced the Rangers thanks to its performance on loan. Despite his injury, the Scottish club sees him as a contribution to the project. This sale could therefore prove beneficial for all parties involved, allowing Lens to turn the page on this failed recruitment, while Cortés would have the opportunity to relaunch his career at a new club.
