“It was a farmer a little further up who saw the smoke coming from the house and called the firefighters,” says Guy, a resident of the village of Cordonnet. The owner of the home was out walking her dog when the fire broke out. Her daughter, who lives with her, was in the hospital. The firefighters were notified at 8:34 a.m. and went to the scene with a van from Vesoul, a van from Gy and another from Rioz. In total, around twenty firefighters were mobilized. When they arrived, thick black smoke was escaping from the home.

Around twenty firefighters

Firefighters intervened inside the house to put out the fire and protected the neighboring shed, which contained seeds. Some tiles in the house fell in the fire. Enedis technicians were deployed to secure the home by switching off the electricity meter. Although the house is located in the heart of the village of Cordonnet, the fire did not spread to other homes.

Nearly two hours after the firefighters began their intervention, gray smoke was still escaping from the house through the windows. The firefighters carried out the “clearing and clearing”, under the orders of Lieutenant Lopes, group leader. They evacuated the furniture from the house, such as the sofa or the beams, which were burnt. This operation allows them to reduce the risk of a fire resuming to zero when they leave the house.

“It’s catastrophic”, Martine Jacquet-Antona, 1re Assistant to the Town Hall of Cordonnet

The owner of the home and her daughter will not be able to return to their home, which was completely burned from the inside. “It’s catastrophic! », says Martine Jacquet-Antona, 1re deputy at the town hall of Le Cordonnet. The two victims can be relocated with family in the village.
