In recent hours, rumors have been circulating in Libyan circles linked to the oil sector concerning the possible resignation of Farhat BengdaraChairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation (NOC). On Libyan social networks in particular, rumors are circulating according to which Bengdara presented a letter of resignation to the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (Gun), Abdulhamid Dabaibaalthough there is currently no official confirmation from the relevant authorities. Bengdara, a key figure in the Libyan energy sector, was appointed president of the NOC in July 2022 thanks to an agreement between Dabaiba’s representatives and General Khalifa Haftarcommander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) based in the east of the country, with the aim of resuming oil production, interrupted due to demands to replace the former president of the Libyan oil body, Mustafa Sanalla. “Agence Nova” contacted the spokesperson for the Ministry of Oil and Gas, Ahmed Joumaawho said he was not aware of any resignation letter submitted by Bengdara.

Other sources close to the matter reported that the resignation was actually presented citing health reasons from which the manager had been suffering for some time. Other sources indicate, however, that Bengdara faces difficulties in mediating between the demands of General Haftar and the directives of Prime Minister Dabaiba, which would make his retention in this position increasingly untenable, while the regional support he benefited seems to have weakened. As a possible temporary replacement, the name of Mohammed Bin Shatwan, current president of the Arabian Gulf Oil Company (Agoco) and figure close to Saddam Haftar (one of the most influential sons of “Marshal” Haftar), who often replaces Bengdara . during his frequent travels, travels abroad to seek treatment. It should be clarified that, even in this case, for the moment these are simple rumors according to which “Nova Agency” has limited itself to recording without finding official confirmation.
