On Friday, September 6, the Var Court of Appeal sealed the fate of Abdellatif Zem, the older brother of César-winning actor Roschdy Zem, sentenced to 11 years in prison for attempting to kill his two daughters in 2017, then attempting to commit suicide. This case, which was particularly trying for the Zem family, shocked public opinion at the time of the events. Having remained discreet throughout the legal process, Roschdy Zem finally broke the silence this Saturday, September 7, 2024 with the newspaper Be Matinexpressing his emotion and support for his loved ones, especially the victims of this tragedy.
The facts date back to March 2017, when Abdellatif Z., then in the process of divorcing the Franco-Algerian singer Souad Massi, had contacted her by telephone to tell her that she would “understand the meaning of the word suffer”. Frightened by these threatening words, Souad Massi had quickly alerted the emergency services.
They then discovered her ex-husband unconscious, his veins slashed, in their house in Bouc-Bel-Air, between Aix-en-Provence and Marseille. Next to her, the couple’s two daughters, aged 6 and 11 at the time, were also found unconscious, victims of attempted poisoning gaslighted after unknowingly ingesting medication.
