The 50th Deauville American Film Festival began on Friday, September 6th with great fanfare. Many celebrities made the trip for the occasion, including actress Julie Gayet, who despite the gray weather caused a sensation on the red carpet. Coming for the screening of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”, François Hollande’s wife displayed a broad smile that made us forget the capricious weather.
Launched on September 6, the 50th Deauville Festival has caused a lot of ink to flow before it even began. Indeed, the director Bruno Narde was accused of sexual assault and harassment. This was followed by several evictions from the jury, including that of the Franco-Lebanese trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf. The latter caused a stir, especially after an exchange via the media between him and Aude Hesbert, now director of the event. The artist claimed to have learned of his eviction from the press, while Aude Hesbert claims to have been notified by email. A complicated dialogue ensued following this decision, which the trumpeter considers an injustice since he was cleared of the accusations of sexual assault that were also against him. The controversy seems to have died down and it was ultimately Benoît Magimel and not the director Maïwenn who took the lead of the jury for this anniversary edition of the Deauville Festival. He is accompanied by Ludivine Sagnier, Damien Bonnard, Elias Belkeddar, Lou Lampros, Agathe Riedinger, Martin Bourboulon as well as Emilie Dequenne.
During the film screening “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” by Tim Burton, Monica Bellucci’s companion, the stars followed one another on the red carpet despite the rain.
