Will the Bernese people give a big accelerator to solar?
2 min. reading
Will the owners of the canton of Bern soon be forced to place solar panels on all the buildings that lend themselves to it by 2040? This is the challenge of February 9, where the population is called upon to decide on a solar cantonal initiative, as well as on its direct counter-project drawn up by the Grand Bernese Council. The vote comes in a context of photovoltaic boom. The construction of installations for this energy has doubled in the past five years in Switzerland, thanks to procedures facilitated by many incentives. But that is not going well quickly for the Bernese green who launched an initiative, jointly with the Evangelical Party (PEV) and the Vert’liberals, then joined by the Socialist Party.
In the event of acceptance in the ballot boxes, the facades and roofs of the new constructions of the canton would systematically have solar panels. As for the existing buildings, they should arrange in a period of fifteen years, by 2040. The proposal aims to be binding, but the initiators are reassuring. “The order must ensure that the measure is socially acceptable,” specifies Cyprien Louis, co -president of the Bernese green. It will not be required in the event of disproportionate costs and does not concern unsuitable or too small areas. ”
