A medal remains a medal. And Switzerland won one on the first day of the world’s world skiing. The team parallel, a format that no longer exists in the World Cup, made it possible to launch the event this Tuesday in Saalbach.
Swiss spectators had to take their pain in patience since Wendy Holdener and her teammates appeared almost an hour after the start of the event. There were only fourteen teams at the start, so that the two best nations in the classification were exempt from the knockout stages.
Austria and Switzerland therefore entered after the end of the first act of the opening ceremony. After the appearance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart making the plane at the foot of the track. The host nation of these world championships faced – and lost against – Sweden while the protégés of Matteo Joris challenged – and defeated Germany.
Wendy Holdener won her first duel against Fabiana Dorigo while Luca Aerni and Delphine Darbellay lost their handle. Then Thomas Tumler saved his team, making a time synonymous with qualification in the semi-finals.
The Swiss quartet then defeated the United States of Paula Moltzan and River Radamus to find Italy in the final. The first medal of these Worlds was already acquired, only had to know the color.

The Swiss lost the first point, but scored the next two. Thomas Tumler set off with the only need to go faster than Alex Vinatzer. He missed his departure, offering the gold medal to Italy.
The Grison was quickly consoled by his teammates. It is the spirit of the team parallel. “I find it magical to be able to rejoice in a good result all together,” said Delphine Darbellay, 22, and honored to be able to participate in this major alpine ski event. Even more magical: to collect the first medal in Switzerland in these world championships.
