Switzerland begins with a team silver medal – Rts.ch
Switzerland has launched its Saalbach Worlds on promising bases. The Helvetians took the silver medal during the team event by bowing against Italy in the final. The quartet composed of Wendy Holdener, Delphine Darbellay, Luca Aerni and Thomas Tumler had eliminated Germany in quarters and the USA in half.
The Austrian organizers of these 2025 Worlds made the curious choice to insert the opening ceremony between the different rounds of a team test which brought together 14 nations. The race, disputed in the form of a 24-second parallel slalom in four face-to-face, lasted almost three hours, starting in full sun before ending in night.
The quarter-finals gave birth to two surprises with the eliminations of Norway (3-1 against the USA) and Austria (time against Sweden). As for the half, they played in time, Italy qualifying itself as a hair against Sweden, while Switzerland was able to count on solid sleeves of Luca Aerni and Thomas Tumler to ensure a medal.
The final was played on a missed departure from Thomas Tumler, the last Swiss runner in the running, who paved the way to Italian Alex Vinatzer to bring the decisive point to the Transalpins. Sweden completes the podium.
Development follows.
