Signature of an agreement for electrical interconnection between Morocco and Mauritania

Morocco and Mauritania have taken a new stage in their energy cooperation with the signing of the agreement to implement the electrical interconnection between the two countries. This agreement was signed in Nouakchott by Tarik Hamane, Director General of the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), and Sidi Salem Mohaned Elabd, Managing Director of the Mauritanian Electricity Company (Somelec) , in the presence of Hamid Chabar, ambassador of Morocco to Mauritania.
This interconnection is part of the Atlantic Royal Initiative, aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and promoting African energy integration. This project will make it possible to secure the supply of electricity of the two countries, to improve the performance of electrical networks and to facilitate energy exchanges between Morocco, Mauritania, Europe and West Africa, in The framework of the Western African Electric Energy Exchange System (WAPP).
Interconnection also represents an opportunity to optimize resources in renewable energies, by valuing energy complementarity between the two countries and by promoting better integration of clean energies in their respective energy mix.
At the end of the signature ceremony, the Technical teams of ONEE and Somelec started consultations to ensure the implementation of the project. This partnership aims to strengthen electrical infrastructure and promote sustainable energy cooperation between the two countries.
