The Royal Forces Air (FRA) received, Monday, February 3, and as we announced in November 2024, the first units of heavy combat drones of the Akıncı type, as part of an ambitious program to modernize the strategic capacities of the Moroccan army. This acquisition marks a decisive turning point in the evolution of the Moroccan defense doctrine by integrating advanced technologies which redefine the paradigms of asymmetrical war and joint operations.

Designed by the Turkish pioneer of the Baykar defense industry, the AKınc is distinguished by its advanced dual turboprop -growed architecture, capable of operating at altitudes greater than 12,000 meters with an autonomy of more than 24 hours. Equipped with an impressive 1,500 kg payroll load, it can take a panoply of sophisticated weapons, ranging from air-ground-to-ground missiles to laser to intelligent precision bombs via latest generation prowling ammunition.

Towards increased strategic autonomy: a technological transfer of rupture

Beyond the simple acquisition, this program is part of an unprecedented technological cooperation framework between Morocco and Turkey. The model received, under development, will integrate technical specifications that meet the tactical needs of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), in particular with regard to electronic war, electromagnetic information (ROEM) and advanced anti -building capacities.

This technological transfer is accompanied by a crucial strategic component: the training of Moroccan engineers and technicians in military aeronautics technologies, both in terms of design and maintenance. The objective is to promote the emergence of a national ecosystem capable of supporting, in the medium term, industrial autonomy in combat drones, but also of opening export prospects to third countries.

Drone’s capacities to carry out long -term surveillance missions, designation of objectives and precision strikes strengthen the deterrent posture of Morocco in the face of hybrid threats, whether irregular armed movements or challenges related to border security.

After the factory, sophisticated drones

In addition, this acquisition is a continuation of Moroccan strategic investments in advanced defense systems, in particular with the Baykar maintenance plant which will soon see the light of day. The objective is clear: to establish technological superiority in a constantly changing geopolitical environment.

A partnership in diplomatic implications

The partnership with Baykar is also an extension of a broader diplomatic rapprochement between Morocco and Turkey, illustrated by an intensification of trade and cooperation in the defense sector.

With the integration of Akıncı drones, Morocco is not content to modernize its armed forces: it operates a profound change in its defense strategy, based on the control of emerging technologies and the development of sovereign capacities in matters of national security.
