The Sint-Jozef school in Strombeek-Bever will remain closed on Wednesday after the complaint of parents accusing an abuse teacher on their 5-year-old child.



The Sint-Jozef school in Strombeek-Bever, near Grimbergen in Flemish Brabant, will remain closed for the second consecutive day tomorrow/Wednesday, the organizing power and the town said on Tuesday. Parents indeed filed a complaint against a teacher who would have abused their 5 -year -old child.

The parents of the child filed a complaint on Friday against the teacher and were to be heard on Monday morning by school management. Calls to demonstrate, however, started to circulate during the weekend on social networks and Monday, a hundred demonstrators gathered in front of the doors of the school.





To such a brand, that Eddy Van de Velde, the director of the organizing power, and the bourgmestre of Grimbergen, Bart Laeremans, launched a call for calm and asked to wait for the results of the investigation.

“Yesterday, discussions took place between the school, the bourgmestre, the parents and the demonstrators. Subsequently, a delegation of the demonstrators was received in school in order to tackle the problem in more depth. Despite this, depredations were caused to school buildings on the night of Monday to Tuesday, “especially in the form of graffiti“.





“In these circumstances, we thought it was desirable to close the school, so that children were not confronted with this. It was also impossible for teachers to give lessons under these conditions”explained the two men.

Call for calm

The Sint-Jozef school, just like the family that filed a complaint, launched a call for calm via social networks. “”The prosecution, the police and the municipal administration also ask for insistent that serenity is coming back, in order to allow the investigation in calm. The school therefore kept closed doors on Tuesday and this will still be the case tomorrow/Wednesday. However, a reception will be provided.
