Namur: Charlotte Bazelaire becomes bourgmestre acting

This replacement is part of a large reorganization of mandates across the province. Upon entering the Federal Government, Maxime Prévot and David Clarinval (MR), appointed Minister of Employment and Economy, release their headquarters of federal deputies, which leads to a set of musical chairs in local and regional bodies.
A choice in continuity, but with a new face for Namur
Several hypotheses had been put forward to succeed Maxime Prévot. Anne Barzin (MR), who had already replaced ex-Bourgmestre between 2014 and 2017, was a natural candidate, as well as the experienced aldermen of the commitments, Tanguy Auspert and Geneviève Lazaron. But Prévot favored another option: that of Charlotte Bazelaire, the elected official having obtained the greatest number of votes after him during the last municipal elections.
“The commitments having come close to the absolute majority last October, it did not appear reasonable that the Mayorate was this time attributed to another political family,” said Maxime Prévot. “Respecting popular membership is the largest mark of respect for the will of voters.”
Charlotte Bazelaire thus embodies a dynamic female face and turned towards the future at the head of the Walloon capital. This appointment, supported by all the agents of the majority, will allow it to deploy its talents in the management of the city. His mandate will be marked in particular by the completion of major urban projects and the continuation of the reforms initiated under the Prévot era.
In the wake of this change, a new member enters the municipal college. It is Julien Lemoine, 26, who succeeds Maxime Prévot numerically as a sunset. His skills and those of other aldermen should be specified in the coming days.
A domino effect throughout the province of Namur
Changes are not limited to Namur. In Bièvre, the transition was simpler: David Clarinval being already a minister under the previous legislature, his role of prevented bourgmestre is maintained and Michaël Modave retains his position as bourgmestre acting.
In the Federal Parliament, the departures of Prévot and Clarinval also required substitutes. For the committed, it is the mayor of Beauraing, Marc Lejeune, who recovers the left vacant seat. He therefore became a deputy-bourgmestre, a cumulation authorized in the room. Same situation for the bourgmestre of deer, Christophe Bombled, who returned to the assembly after leaving it in 2024.
These nominations mark a turning point for the province of Namur, where the renewal of political faces accelerates thanks to local reorganizations. In Namur, Charlotte Bazelaire inherits a central role which she intends to assume fully, while registering in the continuity of the projects already underway.
