No tropical night in Nice for the first time in two months after violent storms

After 60 consecutive tropical nights, the city of Nice enjoyed a respite thanks to storms which allowed the temperature to drop below the fateful 20°C mark.

When summer ends… tropical nights end. In Nice, if there is a positive to be found in the bad weather that has violently hit the southeast, it concerns the temperatures.

For the first time since Friday July 5, the people of Nice were actually able to sleep a little more peacefully thanks to milder temperatures and a night that was not considered tropical.

A short-lived respite

As a major storm hit the southern region on Wednesday, September 4, the thermometer dropped below 20°C for the first time in two months in Nice.

According to BFMTV meteorologist Guillaume Séchet, the mercury actually fell to 18.3°C during the night of September 4 to 5.

A short-lived refreshment, since according to Météo-France forecasts, the mercury should once again climb above 20°C from tonight.

During this night of storms in the south-east of France, 9,000 lightning strikes on the ground were recorded in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The city of Mandelieu-la-Napoule in the Alpes-Maritimes recorded the highest cumulative rainfall in the last 24 hours, with 142.4mm, a level 155% higher than normal for September.
