A man who died without descendants bequeaths his estate of more than 300,000 euros to the town of La Seyne-sur-Mer

La Seyne-sur-Mer will receive the real estate legacy estimated at 336,000 euros from a former plumber who died without descendants in 2022. The mayor of the town signed the notarial deed on Monday, September 2.

An unexpected boost for the finances of La Seyne-sur-Mer. The Var port city will receive a significant legacy thanks to the generosity of Roger Brun, a plumber who died without descendants in January 2022.

Before his death, the craftsman had decided to bequeath to the city all of his real estate assets consisting of three apartments, a small building and a garage located in La Seyne-sur-Mer but also three plots of land located in Rocbaron and Pignans elsewhere in the Var. All of these assets are estimated at 336,000 euros.

The mayor of the city, Nathalie Bicais signed this Monday, September 2, the notarial deed allowing the city to benefit from the transfer of assets. In a press release this Thursday, September 5, the city councilor wished to salute the generosity of this mysterious donor, who, according to her, wanted to “leave his mark on the town.”

An auction

The goods received will be sold at auction and the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the municipal social action center (CCAS).

“Municipalities can only accept donations or legacies if they are intended to contribute to the achievement of public missions (construction of public facilities, support for cultural or social activities, etc.). And in La Seyne-sur-Mer, there is no shortage of projects!” the town responded in a press release.

When donors have descendants, they can demand accountability, as was the case just a year ago in Pradet, another Var commune. The son of a deceased nonagenarian had launched legal action after his father left a legacy of 9 million euros to the town.
