Pope Francis’ visit to Belgium: King Baudouin Stadium packed for his visit next month

LThe demand for tickets for the Eucharist that Pope Francis will celebrate at the King Baudouin Stadium on the last day of his visit to Belgium, Sunday, September 29, has exceeded the 35,000 places currently available, the episcopal conference said in a statement Thursday.

A first contingent of places was made available to individuals on August 19 and all were taken in less than two hours via Ticketmaster. The requests from parishes and movements that could reserve up to 50 places also far exceed the capacities offered.

Additional places

The organizing committee has therefore decided, given this enthusiasm, to give priority to the places that would still be available to groups of 50 people from parishes and church movements arriving by bus. The organization also wants to install additional screens in the stadium and thus create 1,000 additional places. If places were still to be made available, they will be offered again via Ticketmaster on September 12 at 10:00 a.m.

In addition to the requests from the Belgian dioceses, there are also those from the north of France, the Netherlands and Germany. The organising committee has therefore decided to confirm the limit of 50 people per group.

A third category of places has been provided for people with reduced mobility. Here too, all the places were allocated within a few hours. A fourth contingent is, finally, reserved for young people under 30 who are taking part in Hope Happening, the youth festival organised on the occasion of the Pope’s visit to Heysel. 7,500 places have been reserved for them.

Finally, parishes that cannot attend the stadium are invited to organize a broadcast of the mass presided over by the Pope on a big screen in their church. The Eucharistic celebration will also be broadcast around the world.
