A bus catches fire in the middle of the street in Montmorency, the RATP opens an internal investigation

A passenger on the bus was evacuated when the driver noticed the fire. No one was injured in the incident. An internal investigation has been opened at RATP to determine the exact circumstances of this incident.

An RATP bus caught fire in Montmorency (Val-d’Oise) on Monday, September 2, BFM Paris Île-de-France learned from the RATP. The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. at the Les Coutures stop, on line 256.

According to the CGT union, the bus’s engine stalled while a passenger was on board. The driver tried to restart the bus, without success. He also reported that a warning light had come on.

A nearby construction worker then ran to the bus to warn the driver that a fire had broken out at the rear of the bus, near the engine. The driver then evacuated the passenger from the bus, while a passerby alerted the firefighters.

An internal investigation opened

According to the CGT, the driver tried to control the fire using a fire extinguisher while waiting for the firefighters to arrive. The latter were mobilized on site with the national and municipal police. The firefighters managed to put out the fire.

Images circulating on social media show the back of the bus completely engulfed in flames, with a thick cloud of smoke rising above the street.

The RATP, however, assures that no one was injured in this incident. The bus driver “was taken care of by his management”, also specifies the RATP.

The CGT also states that the firefighters carried out checks on the buildings that were nearby and that were affected by the flames. Only a car parked near the bus was apparently damaged.

RATP indicates that an internal investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of this fire.
