A man and a woman have been charged with sexual assault, forcible confinement, assault and threats, after being arrested on Wednesday in Montreal. The video of their spectacular interception has been seen time and time again on social media.
Ben Terry Edouard and Silya Medkour appeared Thursday afternoon at the Montreal courthouse, said Me Patricia Johnson, deputy spokesperson for the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP).
Around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, the police located Mr. Edouard, Ms. Medkour, as well as the alleged victim in a car parked on Cherrier Street, in the Plateau-Mont-Royal. The officers first tried to arrest them, said Véronique Dubuc, media relations officer for the Service de police de la ville de Montréal (SPVM).
However, as we see in the video filmed from a balcony, Silya Medkour, who was driving, started off with a bang. “There are several police officers who then intervened both by bicycle and by vehicle to try to block the suspect’s car to help the victim,” says Ms. Dubuc.
-The driver then hit a tree, which allowed the police to arrest her and Ben Terry Edouard.
The victim, an individual in his thirties, was taken to hospital, but there is no fear for his life, according to Véronique Dubuc.
