A woman died this Friday morning after being pushed onto the RER B tracks in . The 52-year-old victim was “thrown onto the tracks” at the time of the entrance to the train at the Cité Universitaire. The man who pushed her was arrested in the afternoon, after fleeing, said the prosecution, relayed by Agence -Presse.

The 50-year-old, a woman of Algerian nationality, was on the platform of the RER B heading north when she was “violently” pushed on the tracks, “for no apparent reason”, says a police source of AFP. The latter managed to get up, but not quickly enough to avoid the train, which struck and fatally injuredaccording to the prosecution.

The man suspected of the facts immediately fled, before being found a few hours later in Vitry-sur-Seine (Val-de-)where he committed shoplifting. Arrested by a patrol from the anti-crime brigade at 3:40 p.m., he confessed to being “the author of the events that occurred (the) morning”, further specified the prosecution. THE viewing CCTV footage from the RER station made it possible to establish that he physically corresponded to the perpetrator, the same source pointed out.

He was taken into custody as part ofmurder investigation and entrusted to the 3rd district of the Paris judicial police, said the prosecution. The Cité Universitaire station was evacuated just after the incident and remained closed to users for several hours for the purposes of the investigation.
