Of the 12,000 job cuts announced by the multinational Alphabet, 200 concern Zurich. That’s less than the global average, the company says.

The Zurich site is proportionally less affected than those in other regions of the world.
A month ago, just over 200 employees protested outside Google’s offices in Zurich. Threatened with layoffs, they were not entitled to any details or numbers and denounced the uncertainty. It ended on Tuesday, we learn from “Le Temps”. In the end, 200 employees were made redundant in Zurich.
Google did not confirm the number to the Romand newspaper but indicated that, compared to the rest of the world, Zurich was less affected. Globally, 6% of the workforce (12,000 people) are affected by layoffs. According to calculations, if this rate had been applied to Zurich, 300 people would have lost their jobs out of the approximately 5,000 that Google has in Zurich. The number of 200 would therefore be consistent with the company’s claim.
“Le Temps” recalls that Meta, Facebook’s parent company, has also announced a huge wave of layoffs and also employs people in Zurich. The quota is however much lower and, if the layoffs should also concern Switzerland, the total number of people who will lose their jobs will not be as large.
