Gino Mäder and Magnus Sheffield fell violently on the Tour of Switzerland

Gino Mäder and Magnus Sheffield fell hard in the rapid descent of the Albulapass, during the 5th stage of the Tour de Suisse.

Magnus Sheffield and Gino Mäder were both victims of a terrible fall in the descent of the Albulapass, in the final of the 5th stage of the Tour de Suisse. Mäder fell violently and received first aid on the spot before being airlifted. Gino Mäder was inert in the water. He was immediately resuscitated and then airlifted to Croire hospital. The severity of his injuries has not yet been definitively established.” specifies the organization of the Tour de Suisse in a press release.

Magnus Sheffield fell in the same place as Gino Mäder. The American was with Bardet and Skjelmose and was trying to get back to the group of leader Felix Gall in front. The Ineos team rider would have taken a turn too quickly and fell violently. On the finish line, Romain Bardet gave some details on Sheffield’s fall at the microphone of the L’Équipe 21 channel: “I was very, very scared. I don’t know if you saw. Magnus Sheffield fell very heavily 6.7 kilometers from the finish. I was really very scared for him, because I think he hurt himself very, very badly”.

In a press release published in the evening, the organization of the Tour de Suisse indicates that Magnus Sheffield was conscious when the race doctor arrived. “He was transported to Samedan hospital with bruises and a concussion”the statement said.
