One dead in building fire on Avenue Malaussena, 23 people taken into care

A woman in her fifties died in a building fire on Avenue Malaussena in Nice on Saturday, August 31. 23 other people were taken into care by emergency services.

One person died in a fire that broke out on the first floor of a building in a residence on Avenue Malaussena in Nice on Saturday, August 31, Mayor Christian Estrosi said on the social network X, confirming information previously obtained by BFM Nice Côte d’Azur.

23 other people, including several injured, were also taken care of, according to a report released by the firefighters. The SAMU was also mobilized on the scene and took care of the injured and the person who died. One person was slightly burned.

The latter is a 54-year-old woman, the firefighters said. She was “taken out by the firefighters in cardio-respiratory arrest (and) could not be resuscitated,” they said.

Hypothesis of an electric scooter battery fire

Among the people taken care of, there were eight people with minor injuries, including one person with burns, and 13 people were evacuated due to smoke, two of whom were placed in a hyperbaric chamber. The fifty or so firefighters mobilized on the scene carried out a total of five rescues and 15 people were brought to safety.

The fire was started by a burning electric scooter battery, hanging on a windowsill inside an apartment.
