The SNPM condemns the “arbitrary” expulsion of Abdel Samad Nasser by Al-Jazeera

The National Syndicate of the Moroccan Press (SNPM) said it had learned that the management of the Qatari channel “Al-Jazeera” had informed journalist Abdel Samad Nasser of the termination of their contract with Abdel Nasser after due to interference Algerian.

The SNMP denounced the dismissal of Abdel Samad Nasser by Al-Jazeera management as arbitrary. According to a statement from the union, the dismissal follows a tweet by Nasser who defended the honor of Moroccan women, after she was insulted by the official Algerian media.

After refusing to delete or edit the tweet, Al-Jazeera management decided to unilaterally terminate Nasser’s contract, which was seen as an arbitrary expulsion of a colleague who exercised his natural right to express his opinion outside the media framework in which he works.

The union also pointed to the existence of an Algerian lobby inside and outside the chain, which manages reckless behavior and pressure exerted by the Algerian embassy in Doha to impose a certain hostile direction. Morocco’s interests within the channel, and in the media content it offers.

The union announced that it would send a note of protest to the management of Al-Jazeera and its Press Freedom Center, and that it would also address the International Federation of Journalists and the Union General of Arab Journalists.
