“Montreal Girls,” a daring coming-of-age drama directed by Patricia Chica, opens in Canada June 9, 2023

Filmoption International and Objectif 9 are pleased to announce the release of the film Montreal Girls directed by Patricia Chica. It will hit theaters across Canada starting June 9. A daring coming-of-age drama, the film was conceived and produced by filmmaker Patricia Chica (Morning After, Serpent’s Lullaby). It stars Hakim Brahimi and Nahéma Ricci alongside Jasmina Parent, Jade Hassoune and newcomer Sana Asad. Manuel Tadros has a supporting role and Martin Dubreuil appears in a cameo.

Synopsis

Montreal Girls tells the story of Ramy, a young student from the Middle East who goes to Montreal to study medicine. There, he meets his cousin Tamer who introduces him to the bustling underground subcultures and pulsating nightlife of the city. This exciting new world inspires Ramy’s innate desire to become a poet and throws him into a tumultuous relationship with three young women who shatter his perceptions and reveal his destiny to him.

Montréal Girls is produced by Samuel Gagnon and Bahija Essoussi for Objectif 9, a Montreal production company, Paul Cadieux of Megafun is the executive producer while Kamal John Iskander, longtime collaborator of Patricia Chica, is the co-writer.

Filmoption International distributes the film in Canada continuing a fruitful collaboration with the producers started with Kamataki (2005) and Looking for Anne (2009). Remember that Montreal Girls was selected among the ten projects of the TIFF Filmmaker Lab, for which Patricia Chica was chosen in 2018 as one of the emerging filmmakers.

The film is produced thanks to the participation of Telefilm Canada and SODEC as well as the financial support of the Harold Greenberg Fund.
