Leaves, rumors, corridors noise … Gamekult – news

The question arose recently, while the leaks concerning the Nintendo Switch 2 began to multiply and gain in seriousness: what can we speak without falling into the putassier, the production of uncertain information to please a Thirsty algorithm of new things related to the famous keyword “Switch 2”? We then made choices, and shared some “leaked” and therefore unofficial information on several occasions, while remaining quite conservative on our amount of production. Thus, since last September, we have written 7 articles dealing with leaks about the famous new Nintendo hybrid console (here they are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). And inevitably, we have been criticized for making boxes on the Switch 2, because the Google algorithm, after all, it's stronger than everyone and everyone needs to engrave. We have also been given pressure from above to make us talk about these promising subjects (in other words, to make mesh on the back of honest workers – us).

Dare to consider despite everything that, 7 articles dealing with rumors/leaks about a console expected for 8 years, it is still quite little, especially if we were to compare to the competition (we would not dare ). And then, it seems essential to us to take stock of one thing: a rumor and a leak, these are very different things. A rumor is this famous noise that runs, launched in a hurry by a lambda forumer without any form of credibility, then resumed to be gone by accomplices little concerned with its veracity. A good rumor is the one that lasts and that ends up, by we do not know which magic tour, by finishing his race in a more or less serious publication, then granting her a credibility which she did not necessarily need.

The rumor, you can do it yourself: go to Resetera, choose a slightly cryptic pseudo, then argue that ” According to my father who worked 8 years at Blizzard, Warcraft 4 is in the final development phase and should be revealed at the next Blizzcon ». As long as you come across a little gullible forumers (and especially eager for this kind of treat), the rumor swells, begins to generate discussions and debates: ” It is true that 2 years ago, another forumor said something similar, so why not? When rumors are multiplying, it is that they are anchored in reality, right? ». And in a few hours, you are already at the top of R/Gamingleaks & Rumors. Since we started this tirade about Switch 2, as part of our seven official pre-announcement articles of the new Nintendo console, two of them were based on rumors, mainly to smile or Loving it. Know in the future that if we came to approach other such subjects, it will always be with this additional ironic precaution.

In love, the only victory is the flight

And then there are leaks. A leak, unlike rumor, is mainly based on concrete. In short, proof. It can be an official stolen document, an ex-employee who decides to share a lot of information out of revenge, or even an accessorist sharing the design of a console before she did not be made official, for example (you see where we are coming from). But then there are good and bad leaks. To determine the veracity of a leak, it is above all necessary to consider its source.

So, how to recognize a good source for a leak? Already, she does not speak for the first time. It is a source that has a history of good prior information, which becomes verified by the force of things. In other words, even if Shigeru Miyamoto decided tomorrow to secretly create a false anonymous account on Reddit to leak the entire line-up of the launch games of the Switch 2, we would not serve a relay to this information. On the other hand, if the same account continues to reveal content after its leaks turned out to be true on multiple occasions, this time we would attach an obviously increased importance to it.

It is for this reason that each person working in this industry for a little while already has their list of more or less reliable sources for information of this kind. They can be recognized publications and organizations (VGC, Digital Foundry …), journalists like Jason Schreier (Bloomberg) or Tom Warren (The Verge), but also less official but not less serious sources like Tom Henderson ( On his favorite subjects – Battlefield or Call of Duty in particular) or the French Billbil -Kun. All these sources have proven to be reliable on multiple occasions, attributing them to our eyes a quality label sufficiently eloquent to allow us to evoke their information among these lines. But informants of this kind are few.

To make clear, our line is simple and seems to us as a healthy whole: the goal is to favor the sources considered to be reliable (that is to say with a history proving their veracity) and to avoid rumors out of zero part that only bring fallacious speculations (since based on wind). Now that this is clear, let us keep in mind one thing: like every reader of this site, we like to speculate, discuss what could (or not) happen, based on concrete information. To take an example on the fly, we will not prevent ourselves from evoking potential game portages on a new console if we see a certain relevance, or if a “pattern” seems to be taking shape. And if we speculate without any source to support our whimsical words, we will not fail to specify it.

It seemed important to us to make this focus to cut short any mistake: no, we are not going to start offering 38 News Switch 2 per week, as soon as a Subreddit gets carried away on an info from uncle The son of José's nephew, who worked 8 years at Nintendo. Moreover, this will also apply to GTA 6, since it will most certainly be the other SEO fight (to please the Google algorithm, for those who are not comfortable with the term ) shared by all specialized publications in the world in 2025. On the other hand, if sources considered to us as reliable begin to share credible information, we will do so, within the limits of reasonable.
