The Swiss Stock Exchange starts the session in the green

The Swiss Stock Exchange started its last session of the week on the right foot, in the wake of Donald Trump’s statements on Thursday at the Davos Forum. The majority of star stocks were trading in the green on Friday morning and the SMI was above the 12,300 point mark.

In the United States, Wall Street ended up Thursday evening, boosted by Donald Trump’s statements at the Davos Forum. The US president outlined a “bold” agenda, urging Saudi Arabia and OPEC countries to cut oil prices while threatening tariffs to force the return of manufacturing to the American soil, indicates John Plassard of Mirabaud Banque. The Dow Jones gained 0.92%, the Nasdaq index 0.22% and the broader S&P 500 index 0.53%.

“The fears aroused by President Donald Trump have given way to pure euphoria following the information that the customs duties would probably be mainly directed towards Europe,” said Frank Sohlleder, analyst at ActivTrades. The market also welcomes the fact that the US government is fighting inflation and is therefore pushing for lower interest rates. “This will help companies to further improve their results,” continues the expert.

Around 9:30 a.m., the flagship SMI index gained 0.46% to 12,323.27 points, after closing Thursday up 0.47%. The SLI gained 0.50% to 2043.28 points and the SPI increased by 0.49% to 16,413.22 points. Of the thirty star stocks, 21 advanced and nine retreated.

Swatch (+4.4%) took the lead in the ranking. Adecco (+3.4%) and Richemont (+2.5%) completed the podium, visibly boosted by the figures of British rival Burberry. The chocolate medal was awarded to SIG Group (+2%).

Conversely, Partners Group (-0.1%), Swisscom (-0.3%) and SGS (-0.8%) fell to the bottom of the ranking.

The red lantern went to Givaudan (-0.8%). The Geneva-based flavorings and perfumes giant published its 2024 results this morning. The group increased its turnover by 7.2% to 7.4 billion francs.
