News – Val-de-Travers – [PAROLE AUX PARTIS] Environmental Responsibility Initiative

The text submitted to the people on February 9 demands that the economy respect the “environmental limits of the Earth”. There are 9, including climate, biodiversity, deforestation and air, water and soil pollution.

The Earth is warming, extreme events are increasing, biodiversity is disappearing and our natural resources are becoming scarce: we are heading towards an irreversible destabilization of our environment. As a rich country, Switzerland has a special responsibility. Currently, we live to the detriment of the countries of the South and future generations.

To those who believe that it is not realistic or not applicable, we remind you that the initiative provides that the Confederation and the cantons take into account the social impact during its implementation, by providing measures to that wealthy individuals or businesses take greater responsibility. Conversely, modest incomes should not be penalized. Moreover, if the initiative is accepted, the Confederation and the cantons will have to support SMEs and the agricultural world, because they have fewer means to transform themselves. Accepting this initiative will therefore make it possible to act for our common environment without endangering our agriculture and our SMEs.
