Just a few days ago, the weather reminded us forcefully how winter is a cold season. All French departments then found themselves, in the early morning, below the 0°C mark. A sudden drop in temperatures, since mildness then prevailed.
The weather was cold and generally dry. Bad news for winter sports enthusiasts, the anticyclone is leaving France, as reported by our colleagues from the Tamétéo site. It therefore gives way to Atlantic depressions. However, the latter, in addition to bringing a spectacular warm spell, are accompanied by significant precipitation.
Weather: humidity makes a comeback
The return of Atlantic disturbances sets the tone for the end of January. Models predict a wetter than normal week from January 27 to February 2 across almost the entire country. Only the Alsace plain and the north of the Alps could be slightly spared.
The French can therefore already expect rainy weather. Some regions, in particular, will see a lot of rain. We are thinking in particular of the western regions, as well as Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

Snow lovers can start wiping away their tears. The snowflakes will be absent in the plains and will be content with the highest altitudes. On the temperature side, an anomaly of +2 to +3°C compared to normal is expected.
It is therefore the great return of mildness, after very cold weather. But ultimately, this freshness was only fleeting.
February begins with high pressure
Weather experts expect, for the first weekend of February, the return ofan anticyclone extending from the Azores to central Europe. This atmospheric blockage will stabilize the weather. It will give us a week from February 3 to 9 drier than normal.
Temperatures, although falling slightly, will remain above seasonal averages (+1 to +2°C).
-Long-term weather projections suggest a prolonged build-up of high pressures. Between February 10 and 16, a powerful anticyclone is expected to extend from Portugal to central Europe. It will significantly limit precipitation. Additionally, it will maintain temperatures slightly above normal. The weather will therefore opt for mildness, well before the end of winter.

During the following week, from February 17 to 23, dry and sunny weather will persist, offering a spring feeling. While this situation will delight some, it carries risks for nature, which could wake up prematurely and suffer the consequences of late frosts in March or April.
Towards a spring-like end to winter
The week from February 24 to March 2 will offer, according to the weather forecast, similar weather: little or no precipitation and temperatures still above normal.
The French will therefore have the impression of being in spring already. We will then notice a big difference compared to last year's weather. Remember, at the same time, many departments were facing historic flooding.
Remember, however, that the further out the forecasts become, the more they become less reliable. However, this projection is similar to the one that experts gave us before the start of winter. They expected a mild winter season, punctuated by one or two phases of extreme cold.
Mild and dry weather awaits us for the end of winter. Lovers of sweetness can smile. But others know that this weather is new proof of climate change. Ski resorts, like farmers, will have to remain attentive to the vagaries of this increasingly unpredictable climate.
