It is a call for responsibility launched by Patrice Latron to the families of minors involved in urban violence in certain districts of Reunion. The prefect shared his message through letters made public on the prefecture's social networks.
The prefect of Reunion Island has chosen to make public letters sent individually to families of minors implicated in urban violence in several districts of the island.
Patrice Latron recalls in these letters that these children have been arrested multiple times by the National Police since February 2024 and placed in police custody.
They therefore regularly participated in “clashes between groups of armed young people and which resemble a gang phenomenon”.
The prefect expresses his “stronger disapproval of unacceptable behavior” of these children.
-The objective is simple: to call for the responsibility of these families and “to put an end to the gang phenomena which undermine living together in Reunion and contribute to the feeling of insecurity” continues the prefect.
I am counting on your commitment to ensure that these actions do not happen again in the future, in the interest of your children, as well as that of our fellow citizens.
