A “weather bomb” will hit Europe, particularly the British Isles this weekend, with the consequences of violent winds expected especially in the west of France, particularly Brittany. Storm Éowyn and its winds of up to 200 km/h are feared across the Channel.

What is happening in our region, in the Lyon area in the coming days? Strong winds are also expected even if they will be more moderate than in the far west of the country, according to Météo France forecasts.

Yellow wind alert activated Friday in the Rhône

Météo France has activated a yellow vigilance for winds from this Friday January 24, 2025 in the Rhône department.

It will be activated from 8 p.m. this Friday and should be extended until at least Saturday.

Stronger winds starting this Friday

Météo France forecasts announce winds that will strengthen from Friday in Lyon with gusts to 65 km/h. A phenomenon which is expected to continue this Saturday with winds of up to 70 km/h.

Sunday and then Monday will be windy again in the Lyon metropolitan area with forecast peaks of 70 to 75 km/h.

During the night from Sunday to Monday, gusts could reach 80 km/h in the south of the Rhône and 70 km/h in the north of the department.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday should be marked by rainy precipitation in addition to winds.

Remarkably soft for the season

In terms of temperatures, the mild episode will continue after around ten days of cold. In Lyon, the peak of mildness, rather remarkable for the end of January, is expected on Saturday with a maximum of 15°C during the day. “The temperatures are high for the season but there is no record” for the moment, Frédéric Douay assures us.

The maximum for this Thursday is 13°C (+4°C compared to seasonal norms). They were +7°C above normal on Wednesday in Lyon.

Friday, the expected maximum is 13°C, Sunday 13°C and again 15°C on Monday.
