Senegal/APANews: two nominees for journalism competitions | APAnews

Journalist Abdourahmane Diallo and photographer Assane Guèye from ApaNews have been nominated in prestigious journalistic production competitions in Senegal.

Reporters from the African Press Agency (APA News) continue to shine in journalism competitions organized in Africa. After winning awards in 2023, Abdourahmane Diallo and Assane Guèye, employees of “ your window to African information ”, were respectively selected in the categories “ online press » et « photo » competitions organized by the Convention of Young Reporters of Senegal (CJRS) as well as the Center for the Study of Information Sciences and Techniques (CESTI), in collaboration with OXFAM in Senegal.

Having produced numerous reports on the challenges of climate change and the exploitation of hydrocarbons by African countries, Abdourahmane Diallo caught the attention of the two juries for his article published in May 2024 on the level of preparation of Senegal, which has become a producing country oil and gas, in relation to the Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA). This license aims to anticipate and sustainably manage the environmental and social impacts of hydrocarbon exploitation, a major issue for this West African country which relies heavily on this industry to support its development.

Assane Guèye, head of the APA News photo department, won over the CJRS jury with the portrait he created of Guy Marius Sagna, MP and anti-imperialist activist. The submitted image immortalizes a significant moment, in September 2022, when Mr. Sagna tried to block the installation of the fourteenth legislature, denouncing irregularities in the election of the president of parliament under the old regime, led by Macky Sall.
