For those who suffer from administrative phobia, the story of the 2023 real estate declaration campaign is a tale of horror. For the State, this story is that of a fiasco worth more than a billion euros. In 2023, following the elimination of the last tranche of housing tax on the main residence, the 24 million French owners were required to complete their « declaration of real estate » on the tax website, initially before June 30. Concretely, taxpayers were invited to check and possibly update the data relating to their real estate previously entered by the administration in the new declaration tool called « manage my real estate » (GMBI).
