Between January and October 2024, Morocco solidified its position as the main supplier of zucchini to Spain, accounting for almost 60% of Spanish imports of this vegetable.
Until October 2024, Spanish demand for zucchini reached new heights with a total of 12.27 million kilos imported, a significant jump of 194.9% compared to 2015 figures. The total value of imports during this period amounts to 13.9 million euros, with an average price of 1.13 euros per kilo, reported the specialist site Hortoinfo, based on data of ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones.
Morocco established itself as the main supplier of zucchini to the Spanish market during the first ten months of 2024, capturing 59.07% of imports with a volume of 7.25 million kilos, marking an increase of 99. 6% compared to imports made during the same period in 2015. The value of zucchini imported from Morocco reached 7.85 million euros, showing an average price of 1.08 euros per kilo, revealed the same source.
As for Portugal, it is positioned in second place for the volume of zucchini sold to Spain between January and October 2024, representing only 29% of the total, with a volume of 3.56 million kilos. This quantity generated revenues of 3.8 million euros, with an average price of 1.07 euros per kilo.
-With significantly lower volumes, several countries are added to the ranking of the ten main suppliers of zucchini intended for Spain between January and October 2024. Germany is positioned in third place with a volume of 767,123 kilos, followed by France which occupies fourth position with 265,610 kilos. Italy completes the podium of the top five suppliers with 202,490 kilos, Hortoinfo said. Other countries such as the Netherlands, Argentina, Tunisia, Costa Rica and South Africa are also on the list, although with more modest quantities.
