English-speaking establishments are attracting a growing number of French-speaking parents across the country. A recent report published by Statistics Canada reveals that in 2022, a little more than a third of French-speaking parents in the West planned to enroll their children in an English-speaking primary school. This proportion rose to 46% for secondary education. Jason Howe, executive director of the British Columbia chapter of Canadian Parents for French, tries to explain this trend.
-One factor for families who would like to go to French-speaking or French immersion schools is distance. If schools are too far away and it is too difficult to get there, a certain number of parents will look for schools closer to home. Understaffing and long waiting lists may also be factors
