English-speaking establishments are attracting a growing number of French-speaking parents across the country. A recent report published by Statistics Canada reveals that in 2022, a little more than a third of French-speaking parents in the West planned to enroll their children in an English-speaking primary school. This proportion rose to 46% for secondary education. Jason Howe, executive director of the British Columbia chapter of Canadian Parents for French, tries to explain this trend.

One factor for families who would like to go to French-speaking or French immersion schools is distance. If schools are too far away and it is too difficult to get there, a certain number of parents will look for schools closer to home. Understaffing and long waiting lists may also be factorsexplains Jason Howe.
