A cybersecurity company has counted more than 10 million computer threats against Senegalese companies in 2024

(APS) – Kaspersky, an international cybersecurity company, declared on Wednesday in Dakar that it had identified and blocked more than 10 million computer threats targeting Senegalese companies in 2024.

”In 2024, we have identified more than 10 million threats to Senegalese companies, which have been blocked by Kaspersky,” said Gladys Salmouth, the company’s communications manager for North Africa, Center and the West.

Ms Salmouth was speaking at a cyber hygiene awareness workshop, organized by Kaspersky for the benefit of media professionals.

This meeting is an opportunity to “take stock” of cyber threats in Senegal, according to her.

”We want to share practical cyber hygiene tips to help you protect yourself from the most common risks,” Gladys Slamouth told media professionals gathered for the workshop.

Attacks linked to ‘remote desktop protocol’ were most frequent in Senegal in 2024, it reported based on data provided by Kaspersky.

Ms Salmouth reported 600,668 attacks counted for this category.

The number of attacks taking advantage of software vulnerabilities or security flaws amounted to 293,089, she said, adding that there were, in Senegal and during the same year, 71,865 attacks on software. password theft.

Gladys Salmouth recommends simple steps for businesses and individuals to help avoid ‘threats’ and ‘attacks’.

”Check the sender of an email before clicking on a link, do not respond hastily, and especially be wary of deepfakes (video or audio recordings made or modified using artificial intelligence)”, advises -she.

Kaspersky company agents recalled during the workshop that threats linked to cybercrime are evolving quickly.

”When you buy an IT security solution, it works as soon as you install it. It will still work, but also be aware that threats are evolving,” said Pascal Naudin, a manager in Kaspersky’s sales department.

He recommends that companies evolve their IT protection system at the same time as threats.

”If you remain frozen, malicious people will look for loopholes to attack you. Once they find them, they exploit them. It is therefore important to be up to date,” recommended Mr. Naudin.
