With gloomy weather and the Olympic Games in Paris, the sectors of Binic-Etables-sur-Mer and Plouha (Côtes-d’Armor) were slightly less popular last summer. And this small drop in attendance is reflected in the quantified balance sheet of the gendarmerie.
On the occasion of the command's annual visit in mid-January to Plourhan, Major Sébastien James, head of the brigade community of Binic-Etables-sur-Mer and Plouha, announced to local elected officials a slight drop of the interventions in 2024: 1 499 compared to 1,577 in 2023. Decrease observed only in the summer season.
Of the approximately 1,500 interventions, “which do not necessarily trigger a judicial police procedure”, the following emerge:
- intra-family violence (35)
- road accidents (142)
- noise (92)
- public drunkenness (48)
- rodeos (7)
- damage and tags (42)
- brawls-altercations-violence-attacks (154)
- animal ramblings (11)
8 municipalities, 24 gendarmes
The community of brigades covers an area of 8 municipalities (Pordic, Binic-Etables-sur-Mer, Saint-Quay-Portrieux, Plourhan, Tréveneuc, Plouha, Lantic and Pludual) and 28,674 inhabitants.
It is made up of 24 gendarmes throughout the year (15 in Binic-Etables and 9 in Plouha), supported during the season by around ten summer reinforcements as part of the Summer Population Protection System (DEPP).
Road safety: “an aggressive posture”
For the 2nd year in a row, no fatalities on the roads in the district.
Of the 142 accidents, only 11 resulted in injuries.
However, 1 048 infractions were recorded (compared to 933 in 2023). Increase in findings that the major attributes “to the aggressive posture of the soldiers of the brigade community vis-à-vis the road safety ».
-50% are serious offenses leading to accidents (driving under alcohol, drugs, refusal of priority, etc.) which resulted in 133 license withdrawals to drive and 139 vehicle immobilizations.
Addictive behaviors are the cause of 50% of accidents observed. We are removing alcohol, and we will reduce our interventions by 80% in all areas.
Delinquency: 1,000 cases in 2024
Unlike in 2023, delinquency increased by 9.32% in the 8 municipalities: 1,000 incidents in 2024 compared to 932 in 2023.
Among them, the gendarmes noted a small increase in damage to property (423) but among them, the burglaries (90 in 2024) have stabilized despite a significant wave during December on Pordic, “8 in three weeks”.
Also a slight increase in intentional attacks on physical integrity with 202 incidents (compared to 168 in 2023), and destruction-degradation (114 compared to 90 in 2023).
Prevention and presence
The major also highlighted all the prevention actions carried out by the gendarmes of its community of brigades: in schools (pedestrian permit, awareness of the dangers of the Internet, securing sites), with vulnerable people (traders, individuals, elected officials, Internet users, etc.).
He thanked his staff for their 30,502 hours of presence on the eight municipalities. “They are the ones who do local prevention and safety. »
