In a press release, the maritime prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea indicates that it has rescued a boat with 59 migrants on board. On the morning of Tuesday January 21, 2025, a boat left from the Bay of Somme. It was quickly reported to the regional operational surveillance and rescue center (CROSS).

After a few hours of searching by a French Navy ship, the boat was spotted and placed under close surveillance. “Following a series of breakdowns, all passengers were recovered (…) responding to the request for assistance made by the boat“, explains the press release.

The French Navy boat then headed towards Boulogne-sur-Mer. The 59 people were dropped off at the end of the evening and taken care of.

The Manche and North Sea prefecture reminds that: “This maritime sector is one of the busiest areas in the world, with more than 600 commercial ships passing through it per day and the weather conditions are often difficult.
