On the occasion of his wishes to the press, on January 17, Bruno Bernard returned to the recent decision of the Metropolis of Lyon to withdraw a project large wood boiler room in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, which would have supplied the heat network in western Lyon. This will ultimately use “fatal” heat from the Solvay industry in Collonges.
In addition to the context of the election of a new mayor in the neighboring commune of Francheville, between January 26 and February 2, 2025, an anti-wood boiler room collective “Stop Smoking” is generally opposed to this mode of heat production, which emits fine particles.
Bruno Bernard : “The heat network policy is ultra favorable”
Evoking the ban on individual wood heating in open fireplaces since 2023, the president of the Metropolis of Lyon specifies: “We supported 3,500 households to get out of. The heating network policy is extremely favorable for purchasing power and for the carbon footprint. Every time we connect a building, we win, whether the heat comes from an incinerator, a wood-based bio-boiler room or another source!”
And Bruno Bernard highlights the number of connections : “In 2020, we had 90,000 housing equivalents connected to heating networks, we are heading towards 200,000 by 2026-2027. The best solution is heat recovery, then geothermal energy when possible, and finally wood heating. Boiler room filters are very efficient. Furthermore, I am not worried about the potential of the forests 100 kilometers around Lyon.“
