A 40-year-old man arrested with weapons on a train in Gap

It was 4 p.m. this Tuesday, January 21, when rail security officers checked passengers on a train at the Gap railway station (Hautes-Alpes). Among the passengers, a 40-year-old man who had several bladed weapons (machete, knife and cutter) as well as an airsoft weapon in his bag.

Category D weapons which, according to the law, can be purchased and possessed freely by an adult but which require a legitimate reason to be able to transport them.

The suspect taken into custody

Rail security agents then contacted the national police in the town of Hautes-Alpes. The arrest by the police took place peacefully and the individual, known to the justice system according to initial information, was placed in police custody.

An investigation is opened, entrusted to the Gap national police. It aims to shed light on the motivations of this forty-year-old to travel with weapons on a train. This Wednesday, January 22 afternoon, the auditions were still in progress. A decision must be taken in the coming hours by the Gap prosecutor's office.
