in the Landes, socialist elected officials affirm their support for the fishermen of Capbreton

In Capbreton too, the measure irritates. The community of communes Maremne Adour Côte sud (Macs) sent on Tuesday January 21, 2025 a press release signed by the president of Macs, Pierre Froustey, the mayor of Capbreton Louis Galdos, the European deputy Éric Sargiacomo, the deputy Boris Vallaud, the senators Éric Kerrouche and Monique Lubin, as well as the president of the Department Xavier Fortinon and the vice-president of the Region Renaud Lagrave.

“We wanted to affirm our support for the fishermen, their employees and their families. This decision [d’interruption de la pêche, NDLR] questions through its radicalism. Local fishermen have become aware of the interest in improving their practice. They followed the recommendations of the authorities by equipping more than 80% of vessels with systems aimed at preventing accidental captures. But this decision also takes place in a worrying political context. The new Prime Minister has deliberately attached the fishing sector to the ministry in charge of Ecological Transition and Biodiversity. This reflects a very reductive conception of the sea and a lack of vision for the economic sector of fishing”, denounce the socialist elected officials in the press release, who “invite the entire population to show their solidarity with the professional fishermen of the port of Capbreton”.
