This project, implementing the strategic vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aims to develop trade and promote increased economic integration with the Sahel States.

This new commercial route 53 kmunder construction since February 2024, will connect the town of Es-Smara on the Mauritanian border. This major project is part of a dynamic of strengthening the Kingdom’s logistics infrastructure, thus consolidating its role as an essential African hub.

According to the latest information, the work, rigorously supervised by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), is almost complete, leaving only the asphalting stage. This corridor constitutes a strategic alternative to streamline the transit of goods and offer new economic opportunities to local populations.

The security of this new axis is an absolute priority for Morocco. The FAR will ensure constant surveillance using dronesguaranteeing a secure environment against any threat, in particular attempted incursions by the Polisario Front. In addition, the extension of the Sand Wall will contribute to strengthening the stability of the area and preserving the national sovereignty of the Kingdom.

The 215 million dirhams mobilized for this initiative cover the construction of national road No. 17, linking Jederia, Farsia and Mahbes, as well as the 53 km linking Es-Smara to Mauritania. A recent visit by the Minister of Equipment, Nizar Baraka, confirmed the Government’s desire to accelerate the completion of the work and promote rapid commissioning.

A response to Algerian destabilizing maneuvers:

Faced with attempts to obstruct the Algerian military regime, this project is a concrete and bold response affirming the sovereignty of Morocco and its regional leadership. While Algiers persists in destabilizing and sterile actions, the Kingdom continues its path of development and mutually beneficial cooperation with its African partners, relying on tangible actions and structuring projects.
