In a masterful demonstration of strategic vision and pragmatism, Morocco and Mauritania are preparing to take a new step in their bilateral relationship by signing a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of an electrical connection between the two countries. This large-scale project, the result of sincere and mutually beneficial cooperation, once again testifies to the Kingdom’s unwavering desire to promote effective regional integration, far from the malicious gesticulations of Algiers.
The Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benaliconfirmed this major advance this Tuesday, January 21, during his speech before the Committee on Infrastructure, Energy, Mines, Environment and Sustainable Development in the House of Representatives. The signing of this agreement, scheduled for Thursday January 23, during the visit of the Mauritanian Minister of Energy, marks a decisive step towards strengthening regional energy relations and the establishment of reliable and sustainable infrastructure.
Morocco positions itself as an undeniable leader in the energy field, establishing itself as a pivot between Africa and Europe. The Kingdom’s colossal efforts in the development of energy infrastructure are part of a bold strategy, with connection projects to several European countries such as Spain, Portugal, France and Germany.
With the upcoming establishment of a third electrical connection with Spain, with a capacity of 700 MW, and the strengthening of current infrastructure to reach 1,550 MW, Morocco is once again showing its ability to anticipate and to meet the energy needs of its partners. A real snub for the Algerian military regime, stuck in its archaisms and its unsuccessful strategies of division.
A visionary approach against Algerian immobility:
Unlike its eastern neighbors, mired in warlike and sterile rhetoric, Morocco is banking on development, regional cooperation and innovation. While Algiers continues to squander its resources in vain attempts of destabilization and interference, the Kingdom, under the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is charting a path to progress and regional integration. The signing of this memorandum with Mauritania perfectly illustrates this dynamic, opening up real and fruitful prospects for cooperation in the areas of energy security and renewable energies.
Massive investments in the service of Africa
Faithful to its commitment to sustainable and inclusive development, Morocco has multiplied its annual investment budget in the energy sector fivefold, reaching 5 billion dirhams. These funds are effectively deployed to strengthen infrastructure, including the installation of high-voltage lines and the integration of renewable energies. By 2030, the Kingdom plans a colossal investment of 30 billion dirhams, aiming to deploy 2,000 MW of additional capacity.
-This proactive approach contrasts with the rigid and ineffective policy of the Algerian regime, which, instead of investing in the development of its country and its youth, prefers to get bogged down in sterile quarrels and unjustified hostility towards its neighbors.
With this strategic partnership, Morocco and Mauritania send a strong message : the future of North and West Africa rests on cooperation, mutual development and a common vision of progress. Far from the dogmatic postures of Algiers, Rabat and Nouakchott illustrate the power of constructive diplomacy and frank dialogue, placing the interests of their people above any political consideration.
