Deux-Sèvres: “Balance your nest!”, hunters taking care of the avifauna of wetlands

“Balance your nest” an operation in favor of the reproduction of waterbirds

For the second year in a row, the departmental federation of hunters of Deux-Sèvres (FDC 79) has just carried out the first action of the “Balance your nest” operation. This operation, initiated by FDC 79, aims to promote the reproduction of waterbird species, particularly that of the mallard duck, on the marshes and bodies of water in the department by installing nest boxes. These artificial nests, such as tubular nests, are a response and a guarantee of security so that birds can brood and give birth to their offspring in complete peace of mind.

11 tubular nests installed in the town of Oroux

On January 18, 8 volunteer hunters, with the support of the technical service of FDC 79 and equipped with complete tools, braved the cold to install eleven of these nest boxes in several wetlands in the commune of Oroux. The nemrods have spared no effort to offer the local avifauna these shelters which will favor the conditions for their reproduction. In one morning, mission accomplished! Ducks and other birds now have nests protecting their broods from bad weather.

Hunters, guardians of biodiversity

-

Through this original operation, the hunters of Deux-Sèvres fully illustrate the role of guardians of biodiversity of those involved in the hunting world. Through the commitment demonstrated during this type of action, they are working to benefit the protection and development of biodiversity and therefore deserve all our congratulations.
