Gamadji Saré, January 21 (APS) – Alassane Ndiaye, the outgoing president of the local fisheries committee of the district of Gamadji Saré, in the department of Podor, was re-elected, Monday, at the head of this structure for a mandate of two years, noted the APS.
His re-election took place at the end of a general meeting to renew the committee’s office. This meeting was held in the presence of the head of the departmental fisheries service of Podor, Serge Emile Ntab, and under the supervision of Ibrahima Maal, the president of the departmental fisheries council.
Alassane Ndiaye, taking stock of his first mandate, recalled the holding of several meetings and other awareness tours in areas polarized by Gamadji Saré’s CLP.
”The objective was to make stakeholders in the sector understand the committee’s missions, identify their difficulties, with a view to addressing their grievances,” he explained after his re-election.
Alassane Ndiaye recalled the establishment of four biological rest reserves in the backwaters of Doué and Gayo, which allowed fishermen to stock up on fish during the winter.
-Serge Emile Ntab, for his part, congratulated the outgoing office, ”despite the limited resources made available to it”. He stressed that he was able to make great achievements, notably the provision of several dozen subsidized outboard motors and the putting into circulation of a fiberglass canoe.
He also mentioned the support of the Senegalese Shippers’ Council (COSEC) for an amount of five million CFA francs to fishermen in the department.
Mr. Ndiaye also requested support from the supervisory authority for his organization which needs capacity building for its members, access to credit from banks and financing institutions and consideration of the concerns of young people and women in the sector.
