Dakar, Jan 21 (APS) – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced, Tuesday, the disqualification of the local national team of Congo for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled for August in Tanzania, in Kenya and Uganda.
CAF made this decision following a protest filed by Equatorial Guinea.
Congo had fielded player Mankou Nguembete Japhet Eloi, although he was not eligible to participate in the competition.
The governing body of African football therefore declared Congo the loser for the two matches (home and away) played against Equatorial Guinea. Due to this decision, it is the Equatorial Guineans who qualify for the CHAN. They join Pool C, made up of defending champion Senegal, Nigeria and Sudan.
