Sabrina Le Thanh is there head of the center for combating school bullying at the DSDEN of Aveyron, the Directorate of Departmental Services of National Education.

For her, harassment has always existed, but it has become much stronger since the arrival of social networks.

What has changed in recent years is the whole digital part, it's 24/7, there isn't much of a break in the harassment when it continues on the networks. Behind a screen, we are not in contact with the victim, we do not see them, we do not see their suffering. There is a feeling of believing oneself to be safe, even though we leave traces, we are a little in the game, in the virtual. And then, young people are going on social networks earlier and earlier, before their digital majority (15 years), it's a bit like putting a car in the hands of someone who doesn't have the code. nor the license.

Today, harassment often goes beyond the walls of the school and this can make sanctions difficult to apply.

It could be in your sports club, during extracurricular time… What distinguishes school bullying is the group phenomenon. But yes, there could even be sanctions in the event that a student from one establishment is the victim of a student from another educational establishment. Afterwards, the facts must still be established in order to take a sanction.
