Donald Trump procrastinates but does not give up on the trade war

He had promised the application of new customs taxes upon his inauguration. But in the numerous decrees signed by Donald Trump after the ceremony, none concerned this subject. The now 47th President of the United States has, however, already announced that the respite would be short-lived. Imports from Mexico and Canada are expected to face new customs barriers which could go up to 25% from February 1.

Ultimately, nothing surprising for a president whose unpredictability is constantly pointed out in economic circles. Between his thunderous declarations and his actions, there are sometimes worlds of difference. But it would be a mistake to think that Donald Trump intends to be more flexible on trade issues than he let on during his campaign and the transition period.
