Sunday January 19, the parents of Le Cavalier students and the De Chaumont association in Mayotte, organized a charity concert at the Bouchardon space.
At least five families from Mayotte live in Chaumont. All of them have relatives and friends who have been affected since the devastation of Cyclone Chido on December 14. It is to help them that they created De Chaumont in Mayotte. The association has already collected clothes and other goods, which join those of other associations in containers which will leave Bordeaux, Lyon (January 24) and Marseille. Access to the concert on Sunday January 19 was free, a young girl passed through the ranks at the end to collect donations, while in the next room, families sold pastry specialties, biscuits or drinks.
The concert began with a speech by Soifia, with four Mahoraises holding their flag behind her. She took the opportunity to thank the mayor of Chaumont, Christine Guillemy, present, for making the room available. Then mothers and children performed folk dances before giving way to Martine Capelle and her twelve singers who, for an hour and a half, offered a program rich in French and international varieties. No less than 24 titles, often in canon, with a final encore of “Hallelujah”. The needs are immense in Mayotte, every gesture counts.
